World Champs coming to Poimena

Two of the world’s great players will be competing at Poimena on 27/28 November.

Nate Doss and Val Jenkins

Nate Doss (2005 and 2007 World Champion) and Valarie Jenkins (current womens World Champ).

Nate and Val are holidaying in Oz and just happen to have planned their schedule to coincide with the Australian Open plus the Tasmanian Titles.

This is a rare chance to see two of the world’s great players in action in Australia.

Don’t miss it.

Play is 10am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday, competitors should get there for 9am to register.

Tee improvements

Players can now look forward to much improved tees on holes 3 and 18.  The tees have been flattened, widened, gravelled and woodchipped.

So now players have no excuse for not being able to execute a perfect drive from the tee.

This isn’t the last of the tee improvement project, there’s still work planned for the tees of #9 and #14.

Latest course developments

After a month in the workshop, basket 11 has been returned to the course.

Eight brand new baskets have been built and are ready for installation. These eight will be replacing the eight remaining original baskets, which have served the course superbly since 1986.
The first of the new baskets was installed at the weekend on hole 9. The new baskets have had a few minor design tweeks making them structurely stronger, kinder to discs and also better looking (in my opinion).
The basket replacement project is expected to be completed in November.

Work has also begun on levelling some of the uneven tees. Hole 18 was the first to receive attention. Both tees have been levelled and are now waiting for gravel to finish them off and look pretty.

Finally, the land around the old mowing shed has been levelled to make this an ideal tournament HQ location. Long benches have also been added. There’s great views over the river and the mountain and also over the green of hole 9.

Poimena’s getting new baskets!

Thanks to funding from Sport and Recreation Tasmania and Glenorchy City Council, the disc golf course will be receiving 9 new baskets.

These new baskets will replace the remaining original baskets, which were installed in 1986.

The new baskets will be installed over the next few months.

Here are some pics of the new baskets in the workshop, before they go off for powdercoating.
